QAU students, civil society protest against land mafia

As part of the ongoing drive against illegal encroachment, occupation and misuse of Quaid-i-Azam University’s (QAU) land and the government’s lackluster response and discrimination towards the university , old and new students staged a protest demonstration in front of the National press club here on Thursday. Alumni Association of the QAU, Academic Staff Association, Employees Welfare Associations, civil society also participated in the peaceful protest against the illegal occupation of the QAU land. A rally was also held on the occasion from the press club to F-6 Chowk chanting slogans against the land mafia that has grabbed the university’s hundreds of acres. An office-bearer of the university’s Alumni Association while speaking on the occasion said all the old students of the QAU call for end to land encroachment of their alma mater. They would never accept this, he said.
Sikandar Ahmed Rai President QAU Alumni Association said that QAU Alumni would utilize every possible option in this regard and take up the issue to all the relevant forums.
He said it was unfortunate that at a time when Pakistan‘s leading federal higher education institution (QAU) was celebrating its 50th anniversary, it was being subjected to such treatment and had been left on the mercy of land mafia to grab its land.
Newly-elected President of QAU Academic Staff Association, Dr. Ishtiaq said that QAU students, alumni, QAU faculty, employees and administration are really concerned about the fact that various encroachers have encroached upon over 200 acres of the university’s land, worth billions of rupees, he said.
