DIHE initiates community service course

Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education (DIHE) has initiated one hour community service course in its curriculum. This was announced by Vice-Chancellor/Rector of (DIHE), Prof. Dr. Shahana Urooj Kazmi, here on Thursday. She was of the view that students are the integral part of any society and they have a major role in nation’s uplift.
In Pakistan, around 60 percent population consists of youth making them our nation’s greatest asset. She believed that the education sector of the country has been neglected and the budget allocated towards education has always remained very low.
Dr. Shahana believed that inadequate attention has been paid towards education. She was addressing the Orientation Day of DIHE North Nazimabad Campus. Deans, HoDs, faculty members and students were present on the occasion.
Dr. Shahana opined that the increasing wave of extremism in our educational institutions is an alarming sign and that we need to identify the mindset which is responsible for spreading extremism in our varsities.
We cannot afford to let our students becoming a prey to extremism. Extremism leads to terrorism and varsities need to develop a strong and comprehensive vigilance mechanism in order to deal with this emergent situation.
She informed that DIHE has initiated a one credit hour course of Community Services in its curriculum.
The major aim of this course is to senstitize our students about the sufferings and problems faced by the underprivileged class of our society.—APP
