Differences emerges among PTI leaders

Islamabad—Serious differences have emerged among the leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over procedure of intraparty elections and as many senior leaders have different viewpoints in this regard. Chairman PTI Imran Khan taking the notice of the issue has summoned the meeting of senior party leaders and chief election commission (CEC) to resolve the issue.
Sources said on Monday that parliamentary of PTI and party’s former vice chairman, Shah Mehmood Qureshi was of the opinion that only election for the president slot should be conducted while president would be given power to nominate other office bearers. Many senior party leaders were supporting viewpoint of Qureshi, the sources added.
He was of the view that if intraparty election was conducted for all positions of the party it could lead to differences among the party leadership and formation of groups. Other the other hand CEC Tasleem Noorani wanted to conduct election for five positions of the party including president which has led to serious differences among the two senior leaders of the party. Meanwhile, Chairman PTI Imran Khan taking notice of the differences among the party leadership over the issue has summoned the meeting of the senior party leaders to develop consensus and find out solution acceptable for all party leaders.—INP
