Diarrhoea, a silent killer

Mehraj Altaf

In recent days, diarrhea is being like a silent killer and it is uncontrollable. On the day of global Hand washing where the communities try to spread awareness among the people. Unfortuntaly more than 800 diarrheal deaths have occurred per day. According to a report of last year that nearly 300,000 children died under the age of five years in the world due to diarrheal infections. People can be saved from such dangerous diseases from a simple act and that is washing the hand with a soap. Approximately 1.4 million people are at risk of losing life on an yearly basis due to dangerous diseases such as pneumonia and diarrhea.
Hand washing before our meal can reduce the chances of these diseases and more than 40% people will be save from incidences of diarrhea. It is spreading in Pakistan from home to home and nearly 55,000 children are expected to die due to diarrhea infection. It is very common in rural areas where people use soap after their meals and in Pakistan only 63.5% of household estimated having soups in their houses and using them for washing their hands. It is a pity that the health authorities have failed to eradicate diarrhea disease. I want to request World Health Organization (WHO) to create more awareness among people so that they are not affected by such diseases and WHO should conduct some surreys.
