DI Khan win overall trophy of KP U-23 Inter-District Men Games

Peshawar—The youngsters of Dera Ismail Khan waved the overall trophy after securing 145 points against disjointed District Tank in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dera Ismail Khan Region Inter-District Men Under-23 Games played at Dera Sports Complex on Wednesday.
Director Sports Operation Tariq Mehmood was the chief guest on this occasion. Organizing Secretary Syed Saqlain Shah, Nawaz Khan Malizai, Zakir Khan, former national athlete Dr. Salahuddin, Chairman Sports Sciences Department Gomal University, President Dera Hockey Association Muhammad Saddique Tehim, RCA FATA President Noor Ul Haq Baloch, international hockey player Shafqat Ullah, DSO Dera and Tank Amir Zahid Shah and Razi Ullah Betani, players, officials and large number of spectators were also present.
It was nail-biting finish when the two teams grips for Cricket event. There were dolls (drams) and surna (pipe) performance as well on each of the boundary and one or twos with thundering applauses.
DIKhan skipper won the toss and invited Tank to bat first. Tank setup a handsome target of 163 runs for the loss of five wickets after playing 20 overs with thanks to all rounder Inam who struck an elegant half-century. Rizwan and Sajid Ullah scored 29 and 27 respectively. For Dera Sami Ullah took two wickets while Furqan and Adan took one wicket each.
In reply, Dera succeeded in chasing the target on the last ball as one ball remained with four runs for victory. Skipper Siddique of Dera played a stunning role of hitting the last boundary besides scoring an vital knock of 67 runs including five boundaries and two sixes.
In athletic Dera got five gold medals and four silver medals by taking the overall trophy, Tank remained at second with two gold and two silver. Adnan of Tank was declared best athlete who won 100m and shot-put gold. He also got the honor of becoming the fastest athlete of the Meet.
Apart from Basketball wherein Tank defeated Dera by 46-44 in a closely contestant encounter, DI Khan won all 14 events out of total 15.
At the end, the guests gave away trophies, and cash prizes. The winner awarded Rs. 15000/- as cash prizes while the runners-up got Rs. 10000/-. Soon after the presentation ceremony ends, the players have a grant “Atharn” which turned the whole complexion into a melodious one. There were great jubilation as well from both side Tank and Dera players.
In his brief chat, Tariq Mehmood assured that the govt has utilizing all its resources to facilitate them and hopefully good teams out of Tank and Dera would be formed to represent DI Khan Region in the forthcoming KP Games.—APP
