Dar directs for timely updated inflation-related data

Islamabad—Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Saturday, directed Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) ensure that all data related to inflation and other economic indicators be timely updated and wider coverage accorded to its dissemination for information of the general public. Chairing a meeting to review performance of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics in the last six months, Finance Minister further asked that periodic surveys for ensuring data accuracy should be carried out regularly using latest available technology.
Chief Statistician, Asif Bajwa apprised the meeting about the current trend of inflation indicators. The Minister was informed that sensitive price indicator (SPI) is continuously declining due to smooth supply of different commodities in the market and vigilant monitoring of prices both at federal and provincial levels. Prices of major items are stable or exhibit a declining trend. It is pertinent to note here that a few days back Asif Bajwa also informed a similar meeting He about the preparations for the census being undertaken by the Federal Bureau of Statistics as the key organization in coordination with other federal and provincial institutions. He said regular meetings of all the officials concerned and experts were being held to fine tune the arrangements.
