City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi on the directive of Deputy Inspector General of Police has launched a grand operation against underage drivers and those not holding driving licenses.to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Yousaf Ali Shahid said the driving licenses of Rickshawas, Chingchi Rickshaws, Suzuki drivers, motorcycles and other vehicles would be checked during the campaign.
The juvenile drivers not only put their own lives in danger, but also other road users, as well, the CTO said adding that the parents should keep a vigilant eye on their children to avert road accidents.
He said, CTP education wing was creating awareness among the citizens about risks involved in underage driving. CTP also organize awareness walks and seminars with radio programs.
Special directives had been issued to Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) of all circles, inspectors and wardens working in the field in this regard, he added.
He said the drive is aimed at providing safety to the citizens and ensuring implementation of traffic laws.
The CTO informed that 103 drivers who were on roads without driving licenses have been issued challan slips under the campaign while action in accordance with the law, was also taken against 34 underage drivers. About 117 without number plate vehicles and motorcycles were also challaned.—APP
