CT Scan machines at DHQs

IN yet another important step towards providing relief to the people, Punjab government has started the process of provision of CT Scan machines at all District Headquarters hospitals (DHQs). Up till now, patients visiting DHQs have to visit private labs to avail CT scan facility that is frequently used to investigate numerous diseases such as disorder of bones, central nervous system, cardiac system, cancer etc. Provision of these expensive machines at the hospitals will definitely help poor patients to save money on this costly examination which varies depending on the nature of the scan.
The process of installation of these machines should also start from least developed districts, as because of lack of health infrastructure people of these areas have to travel to main cities for treatment and laboratory tests including the CT scan. As generally people cannot afford expensive treatment at private hospitals, we also expect that equipping public sector hospitals with state of the art machinery handled by properly trained technicians catering to meet requirements of patients will continue. Quite recently, we have seen doctors and paramedical staff frequently resorting to strikes to get their demands fulfilled which resulted in loss of many precious lives. As Punjab government is striving to bring improvements in the healthcare system, it also needs to address the genuine grievances of medical community so that it could serve the people with utmost commitment and care. Along with this it is important to provide better treatment environment to patients in the hospitals. But at the same time strict action needs to be taken against those who are bent upon disturbing the system.
