CPEC on top of RAW’s agenda

THE Government is determined to implement the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project and the Army Chief, General Raheel Sharif, twice in a week reaffirmed resolve of Pakistan Army to provide full security for the purpose. This is not mere a verbal assurance as a special Security Division devoted to the security of CPEC projects and Chinese nationals working on them has been raised.
It is, however, also a fact that conspiracies are being hatched against this project, which is being described as game changer because of its economic and strategic impact. This was confirmed by arrested RAW agent Kulbhushan and now again by Secretary Defence General (Rtd) Alam Khattak, who told Senate Standing Committee on Defence on Wednesday that RAW has established a special cell at its headquarters in New Delhi to sabotage CPEC project and that the Indian agency has also set up a similar cell at NDS headquarters in Kabul for coordinating anti-Pakistan activities. The disclosure that RAW has its cell at the headquarters of Afghan intelligence agency substantiates reports about Indo-Kabul collusion to destabilize Pakistan. This is very serious as it runs contrary to the verbal claims and assurances of the Afghan President that he would not allow use of Afghan soil against Pakistan. It also shows that there is a grand design against CPEC and Pakistan will have to work hard to overcome all the hurdles and move towards its successful implementation. It is good that the Government took several initiatives to address genuine or unfounded concerns and reservations of some domestic quarters and now there is consensus on the project. But we would need complete unity among our ranks to foil designs of the enemy and hopefully no one would become, knowingly or unknowingly, tool in the hand of some foreign powers that have their own agenda for the region.
