Pakistan has emphatically stated that the nomenclature of China Pakistan-Economic Corridor Project (CPEC) is not being changed. No proposal in this regard is under consideration as the project is between Pakistan and China.
Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abdul Qadir Baloch was speaking on a motion in the Senate on Monday on the statement made by the Chinese Ambassador in India regarding the changing of name of CPEC.
The Minister said the Chinese side itself has refuted reports in this regard. The multi billion dollars project envisage construction of several projects in the sphere of infrastructure and energy as well as special economic zones.
On Pak-Iran relations, the Minister said the two countries enjoy excellent relations and there is an appetite on both sides to further strengthen the bilateral relations by enhancing their trade volume to five billion dollars.
He said that recent statement of the Iranian Army Chief was highly inappropriate but the Iranian Ambassador in Pakistan has clarified that the statement was taken out of context.
About the recent Afghan firing near Chaman, the Minister said negotiations are underway at different levels in order to reduce the tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He said that recently two delegations are also visited Afghanistan and held positive talks with the top Afghan leadership.
