Court rejects bail plea of Wagah attack ‘facilitator’

Staff Reporter

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday dismissed the bail application of an alleged facilitator of Wagah border suicide attack. ATC-III Judge Aqib Nazir heard the application, filed by the accused, Shafique.
The defence counsel submitted that the police had registered a baseless case against the accused for facilitating Wagah border suicide attack.
He submitted that the accused was arrested 10 months after the incident and nothing was recovered from him. He pleaded with the court to release the accused on bail as no evidence was found against him.
However, the prosecution opposed the application and contended that the accused facilitated the attack and he was arrested after being identified by a witness. He maintained that the accused was also involved in many other cases.
At this, the court dismissed the bail application.
Dozens of people were killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up at Wagah border in 2014.
