‘Fake charges of illegal possessions’
Islamabad—Ali Dar, son of the Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, has filed a damages suit against Chairman of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan for hurling baseless charges against him of possessing illegal properties in United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In this regard the Sessions Court of Islamabad issued notices to Chairman of the PTI once again to submit a reply. The court has directed Khan to submit his reply by June 18. In his damages suit, Ali Dar has submitted before the court that PTI chairman has on a number of occasions alleged that he (Ali Dar) is possessing illegal properties in the UAE.
He is making these charges repeatedly in the wake of the recent Panama Leaks. By making such baseless allegations, Imran Khan Chairman of the PTI has caused irreparable damage to my dignity and self-respect. Such fake charges have also caused mental agony and torture to him, submits Ali Dar before the court. He has pleaded before the court to initiate action against him.
It may be mentioned that Imran Khan is already facing a damages suit filed by former Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Former chief justice filed a Rs20 billion damages suit against PTI chief Imran Khan for “intentionally causing defamation to his respect within and outside the country by hurling baseless, mischievous, malicious allegations through his speeches, interviews, spoken words” and Rs5 billion “as damages for mental agonies, torture, harassment.”
Though Imran Khan has hired the top lawyer of the country and former Law Minister Babar Awan yet it seems a remote possibility that he will be relieved of that in near future.
The 41-page petition filed by the former CJP contends that on July 26, 2013, the PTI chief used slanderous language against the judiciary and accused the returning officers of rigging May 2013 general elections without any evidence. According to analysts, the latest damages suit filed by Ali Dar can add to the challenges Mr Khan is facing at the political front.
