Court hands death sentence to supermodel’s murderer

Islamabad—Additional District & Sessions Judge Abida Sajjad on Tuesday awarded death penalty to Maaz Waqar for killing Pakistan’s top model Fehmina Chaudhry in October 2013. Fehmina was from Karachi and well settled in Singapore doing modeling when Maaz, son of senior official at Pakistan’s High Commission in Singapore developed friendship with her and lured her to buy property in Islamabad. On her arrival, he kidnapped her and later strangulated her for ransom. His accomplice Asif was also awarded life-term by the same court.
Noshaba mother of Fehmina standing outside the court waiting for judgment broke into tears when she came to know her daughter had finally got justice. My daughter was mother of two children and she trusted Maaz blindly and we never knew he would do this to us and himself, she said.
According to details, after Maaz Waqar had confessed to murdering Fehmina Chaudhry, the court sentenced him to death. The court also ordered in its verdict that the deceased relatives be paid Rs 300,000 as compensation money. Additional Sessions Judge Islamabad Abida Sajjad announced the decision.
