Country to attain self-sufficiency in defence production: Tanveer

Sialkot—Federal Minister for Science and Technology Rana Tanveer Hussain Thursday said that a strategy had been evolved for attaining self-sufficiency in defence production. Talking to APP at Surgical Instruments Manufacturers Association of Pakistan (SIMAP), he said hundreds small vendors were engaged with defence production, adding, “We will attain self-sufficiency in defence produc-tion and the nation will hear good news in near future”.
The Minister further said that strenuous efforts were being made for involving vendors from every nook and cranny of the country in defence production, adding, “We are holding meetings with vendors for assessing their capability”. The PML-N government was making sufficient efforts for tracking the industrial sector on modern production lines, enabling it to cope with fast changing trends of production, he said.
Rana Tanveer further said the government had focused its attention on enhancing the export volume and its high time that business community should join hands with the government to play its instrumental role in increasing the export volume. The Minister pointed out that decline in exports was the result of global recession but “We will overcome on decrease”.
Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had approved the strategic three-year trade policy with the target of US$ 35 billion, he said and added that all out efforts were being made for providing uninterrupted electricity supply to the industrial sector to keep the production wheel in full motion.—APP
