Coronavirus SOPs were obviously violated in the National Assembly during polling for the Senate elections on Wednesday as most members, including Prime Minister Imran Khan, were present in the Assembly Hall not wearing masks.

Other notable figures who did not wear masks included Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Federal Science Minister Fawad Chaudhary.

The TV footage showed that legislators were interacting with each other without adhering to the corona guidelines.

Some lawmakers who entered the parliament building wearing facemasks found barefaced when it came to voting.

Pakistan has recorded a spike in coronavirus deaths as 75 fatalities were reported during the last 24 hours (Tuesday) as the death toll from Covid-19 has now crossed 13,000 marks, showed figures of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) released on Wednesday morning.

And 1,388 fresh cases were reported across Pakistan, taking the number of total confirmed cases to 583,916.—INP
