Construction of three garbage transfer stations

Karachi—The construction work of three garbage transfer stations would commence this month in Karachi.
This was stated by the Managing Director of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB), Roshan Ali Shaikh, here on Sunday.
The sites for the garbage transfer stations have been selected, he added. Shaikh stated that there would be separate garbage transfer stations for the shifting of domestic, industrial and hospital garbage from Landhi/Korangi.
He said that the sites for these have been selected in Sector 26 Korangi, Sharafi Goth and Sector 52 Korangi.
The Managing Director SSWMB said that the construction work would commence this month.
He stated that this would facilitate the disposal of industrial, domestic and hospital waste from Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal, Defence and adjoining areas in a scientific manner.
This, Shaikh further said, would help improve the cleanliness situation.
He said that gradually the work in other areas of the metropolis would also be initiated.
Shaikh, who is also the Administrator Karachi, directed that encroachments be removed immediately from Korangi Crossing to Quaidabad Korangi Road.
He said that encroachments on the roads are affecting the flow of traffic and thus creating various problems.
The administrator announced that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation would remove encroachments from main thoroughfares in the city to help improve the flow of traffic.
He said that steps are being taken to remove encroachments from the University Road.
Shaikh announced that encroachments on the roads would not be tolerated and asked encroachers to vacate such area themselves to avoid any losses.—APP
