Concrete steps being taken to eradicate terrorism, extremism

Lahore—Provincial Minister for Human Rights & Minorities Affairs Khlail Tahir Sandhu has said that Punjab government has taken concrete steps to eradicate terrorism and extremism in the province. Provincial government is implementing National Action Plan with full spirit. Provincial committees on interfaith harmony have been constituted to promote tolerance and interfaith harmony at gross root level. Government has adopted comprehensive policies to promote religious harmony with the collaboration of religious scholars of all schools of thought which helps to achieve positive results.
He expressed these views while talking to High Commissioner of Canada His Excellency Mr. Perry John Calderwood, in a meeting here at Lahore. He said that Pakistan has played exemplary role in war against terrorism. He said that Punjab government has established a provincial task force on human rights to implement and monitor human rights laws in the province. Minorities living in Punjab are quite safe, their children are getting scholarships and financial assistance at various level.
The Minister said that provincial government also launched various development programme to provide better facilities in religious places, residential colonies and graveyards. At this occasion, Canadian High Commissioner Mr. Perry John Calderwood praised the sacrifices of Pakistan in war against terrorism. He said that there are bilateral relations between Pakistan and Canada. He said that Canada always respect the stance and sacrifices of Pakistan in war against terrorism.
He said that it is necessary to provide fundamental rights to all citizens without any discrimination of cast, colour and creed. He expressed satisfaction over human rights situation in Punjab.
