Government does not fear accountability; Era of negative politics has ended
Lahore—Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday stated that the commission formed to probe into the Panama Leaks can initiate the investigation of the matter from him if it intends to.
While addressing journalists here, he said that he has written a letter to the Chief Justice regarding formation of the commission, adding that the Chief Justice can make changes in the Terms of References of the commission upon his own will.
“We would extend all out cooperation to the Supreme Court in investigations in which manner it wants to conduct,” Nawaz said. He said the Chief Justice, if he wishes, could start investigations into the Panama Leaks from his family.
Nawaz maintained that he and his family had already faced accountability since 1990. “Pervez Musharraf had conducted our accountability but found nothing wrong,” he said, adding: “We were running business before 1972 and paid taxes honestly for the country.”
He added that neither they indulged in any wrong doing nor got kick backs. We believe in rendering selfless services to the masses. He added that in the past, the government targeted him but found nothing wrong. When asked about civil-military relationship, Nawaz said these are much better. However, he said the system must continue.
He said that no scandal of the current government has surfaced and that it has the support of the people.
He said that “Peace in Karachi has been restored”. Referring to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, he said that those who ask for “their turn” are unaware that they will not get their turn in this manner.”
Earlier the Prime Minister presided over an important meeting at the Governor House which was participated by Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana, Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief Secretary, Punjab, Inspector General and secretaries of other departments. The meeting discussed and reviewed the progress made in various ongoing development projects .
The Premier stated that the next phase of the Local Body elections shall conclude in May and that the authority shall be handed over to the people at local level in true spirit.
He said that the people have rejected those who cause unrest in the country. He stated that the problems faced by the people will be solved at their doorsteps, adding that complete attention will be paid towards providing basic facilities to the people.
Answering question about PTI chairman Imran Khan who is holding a rally in Lahore on Sunday, the premier said he (Imran) neither has any knowhow of practising politics nor have political consciousness.
He said Imran should give up negative politics.
He further said that politics of confrontation is not in the country’s interests, hence, this must now end. He said those resorting to hooliganism are not his enemies but of the country.
He said the government believes in public service and the benefits of development will be transferred to the masses in the next two years.
He also highlighted various development projects initiated by the government saying service to the nation was the only way to success and the government would accomplish its journey of development, prosperity and glory by the Year 2018.
Earlier, addressing a meeting at the Governor’s House, the premier said days of negative politics were over now and added masses had rejected politicians who wanted to create anarchy in any manner.
The meeting reviewed various development and provision of basic amenities projects across the country. The premier vowed to provide basic amenities of life to the people besides education, health and other facilities of life. He said he will personally monitor it.
He said power outages will be eliminated during the next two years.
