Colourful Inter-District games begin in Mardan

Peshawar—The colourful opening ceremony of the Inter-District Games part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inter-Regional Games got under way amidst tight security and fun and joys at Mardan Sports Complex on Tuesday.
Commissioner Mardan Division Zakir Hussain Kamran Zeb was the chief guest on this occasion who formally inaugurated the Games wherein more than 500 male players from District Swabi, Buner, Malakand and host Mardan in 15 different events comprising cricket, hockey, basketball, volleyball, squash, tennis, badminton, table tennis, boxing, athletic, gymnastic, judo, karate, taekwondo, and football are taking part.
DC Mardan Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, Director Sports Tariq Mehmood, DSO Syed Saqlain Shah, Jamshed Baloch, Director Sports of various school and colleges, international players of various games, a good number of spectators were also present during the inaugural ceremony.
The Games will continue for three days and out of the Games selection of best players would be made in various Games who would represent Mardan Region.
The ceremony was started with recitation from the Holy Quran by Imtiaz, followed by National Anthem, March Past of the team and stunning Gymnastic, Martial Arts show by the school children and a grand traditional “Atharn” dance were largely enthralled the sitting spectators and players.
In the first phase games at districts level will be organized, followed by regional level. After successful Games at Bannu, Mardan is hosting the games wherein districts from Buner, Malakand, Swabi and host Mardan players vie for the top honor.
Like Bannu and Mardan opening and closing of the Games at Inter-District level would organized at Regional Headquarters like Dera Ismail Khan, Kohat, Abbottabad and Peshawar.
In a brief media talks, Commissioner Mardan Division Zakir Hussain said that efforts have been ensured to facilitate the players at all level.
He said there is no dearth of talent and such like activities would certainly helpful in bringing the actual talent to the lamplight. He said youth are the future builders of the national and that is why the govt is striving hard to facilitate the youth in all fields including sports.—APP
