Lahore—The Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif presided over a meeting Thursday to review progress on implementation of Agri Package 2016 for the development of agriculture sector and prosperity of farmers.
The Chief Minister said that Punjab government had given historic package of one hundred billion rupees for uplift of agriculture sector and prosperity of cultivators.
He said measures will be taken to directly benefit small cultivators. The Chief Minister said that extension and research wing of Agriculture Department will have to be made active and effective measures are needed for curbing spurious agri medicines. He said that agriculture commission will be made a permanent institution.
He directed taking immediate steps for legislations in this regard. He said that final shape should be given as early possible to the measures proposed under agri package and an effective mechanism be evolved for their implementation. Shehbaz Sharif said that all possible administrative and financial measures will be adopted for the benefit of cultivators.
He said that agriculture is the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and prosperity of farmers will result in development of the country. He said that interest of farmers are being held uppermost and all out resources are being utilized for this purpose.
