Karachi—Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Sunday said that the Baldia factory fire was the worst incident in the history of the country which claimed over 250 lives, including a large number of women workers. “This can be termed as the worst crime against laborers.”
In a message on the eve of fourth anniversary of the tragedy, the chief minister said that he had sought a detailed report from Home, Labour and Prosecution departments so that necessary action could be taken in respect of payment of compensation to the families of victims, fulfillment of labour rights and for strong prosecution. “In my life I have never heard such a painful incident in which a large number of innocent workers had been burnt alive,” he said and added “it wets my eyes when I recall the incident.”
“What wrong those poor workers had done,” he questioned and then said simply they were there (in the factory) to earn square meals for their families,” he said.—APP
