City Council demands Rs500b package for Karachi

The Council of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation in its general meeting held on Wednesday through a resolution called for at least Rs 500 billion Package immediately for Karachi so that city infrastructure could be improved and the people of the sixth biggest city of the world could be provided with basic civic facilities.
The meeting was held in the KMC Building under the chairmanship of the Deputy Mayor Karachi Dr. Arshad Abdullah Vohra approved nine resolutions out of which eight were passed unanimously, said a statement.
These resolutions included immediate fumigation in the city, repairing and maintenance of fire brigade vehicles, rehabilitation of road from Gulbai to PAF Masroor gate no.1 near Hawkesbay, Providing of funds to union committee chairmen from uplift funds budget, approval for sending the recommendation of awarding contract for entry fee in the Beach Park, Gulshan-e-Jinnah and Hill Park to the Parks Committee for further review.
Deputy Mayor Dr. Arshad Vohra during the meeting said work on 168 schemes in the city would begin from October 15.
He said the funds of KMC were provided to the union committee and KMC doing the patch work on common city arteries.
Members of the city council who expressed their views and commented on resolutions include Karamullah Waqasi of PPP, Aman Khan Afridi of PML(N), Firdous Naqvi of PTI, Arif Khan Advocate, Habib Hasan, M. Aamir, Hanif Surti, Asif Siddiqui, Waqar Tanuli, Kulsum Shama, Abdul Majeed, Tajuddin, Fazal-ur-Rehman, M. Chohan and Comrade Jaskani.—APP
