The District Headquarters Hospital, Chitral, which is the main hospital for the 600,000 population of the district, lacks basic facilities due to which the patients are facing many hardships.
The treatment facility of kidney diseases is not available at the hospital which means those who can’t afford treatment at expensive hospitals and clinics had to wait for their death at home helplessly.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) local leader of Insaf Lawyers Forum Altaf Gohar Advocate said new dialyses machines worth millions of rupees are lying non-functional in the hospital for the last four years. The hospital administration said that the machines could not be run in the absence of technicians.
Women dialysis technicians belong to Chitral are performing duties in other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Gohar and local people called upon the provincial government to make these dialyses machines operational if it is serious in health reforms.
A man and woman died in Peshawar who had come from Chitral for their kidney dialysis at different hospitals of Peshawar because there is no such machine at Chitral hospital.
