‘Glamorous China: Colours of Xinjiang’

Islamabad—Colorful and artistically choreographed cultural performance by Chinese troupe cast a spell on the audience moving them to applause here at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) Saturday. Chinese dancers and performers on folk tunes and traditional dances, music and songs displayed rare artistic skills and movements of the ‘Colourful Xinjiang’ the theme title of the performance.
Minister of State Engr Balighur Rehman was the chief guest on the occasion while Chinese Cultural Counselor Mr You Yi and Director General PNCA Jamal Shah were among the hosts of the show.
In his brief message Engr Balighur Rehman said Pakistan and China took pride in their thousands of years old heritage and their strong cultural and traditional roots. Both Pakistan and China are time-tested friends and believe in promotion of economic as well cultural and educational relations. He hoped the Chinese performers and artists would continue to visit Pakistan to enthrall people here with their beautiful compositions, songs and performances.
The 17-item programme, titled “Glamorous China: Colorful Xinjiang” featured northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region through music & dances. The spellbinding performance included Uygur dance and song,, Tajik group dance, Kazakh song including performances by National Performing Art Group (NPAG) of PNCA with a collaborative dance performance by Pakistani and Chinese artists.
One could see audience clapping and twisting in their seats along with the dancers and performers giving a show of perfect harmony. Most of the dance performances and songs were about the rich cultural heritage of the Xinjiang province showing their keenness for music and their particular mood.
Pakistani performers also displayed their skills and perfection of art on the occasion making it a joint Pak-China venture.
The performance was culmination of the joint workshop of Chinese and Pakistani artists where artists exchanged their experiences and collaborated earlier this week. Artists from NPAG presented two dance performances with Alghooza Player Akbar Khamisoo Khan breathless performance.
Besides official of both the governments, foreign diplomats as well as local students, artists and people attended the event. Director of the Chinese cultural centre Mr You Yi said that the performance would help Pakistani people know more about Xinjiang and feel the diverse culture in China.
Director General, PNCA Jamal Shah who has stirred the PNCA into life after joining it hardly a month back said there was need to focus on more comprehensive artistic and cultural interactions and exchange. The performance was a cultural feast, and the artists conducted a top level show with one act blending effortlessly into the other presentation, said he.
