China provided full assistance to transport, energy projects: Shehbaz

700 delegates of Chinese companies attend Forum

Lahore—Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Saturday that China has provided full assistance and cooperation to transport projects, improvement of infrastructure, energy projects and process of mining in Punjab.
He expressed these views while addressing the inaugural function of 5th Pak-China Business Forum at Expo Centre, here. Chinese Consul General Yu Boren, 700 delegates of various Chinese companies, Chief Executive Officers of business houses and companies, senior officials and a large number of Pakistani investors attended the function. The forum was arranged with the cooperation of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology.
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistani nation can never forget huge investment of a great friend, unconditional support and cooperation of China in the development of various sectors of Pakistan. He said that 11 months ago, agreements on the projects under CPEC were signed during the visit of Chinese President to Pakistan in April last year and work was started on these projects in September. He said that such friendship is unprecedented.
Shehbaz Sharif said that holding of Pak-China Business Forum is a welcome step due to which process of contacts between people and traders of both of the countries will strengthen.
He said that Pak-China friendship has become an example in the world. He said that participation of businessmen in such a large number from China is a clear proof of strengthening friendship. No doubt, Pak-China friendship is higher than Himalaya, deeper than ocean, sweeter than honey and stronger than steel, he added. Chinese President openly said that we are iron brothers and he has also proved by extending unconditional support to Pakistan.
He said that reserves of iron ore have been discovered in Chiniot and Chinese company MCC has taken part in exploration of these reserves and completed this task. He said that according to initial verification of reserves of iron ores in Chiniot, there are also some spots of gold and copper. He said that a final report will soon come fore and a plan can be made for setting up a steel mill.
He said that Chinese companies can make investment under public-private partnership and this is best opportunity for them. He said that Chinese government has provided funds through Exim Bank for orange line metro train on very soft terms. He said that there is no such country except China in the world which can provide funds on such soft terms. Shehbaz Sharif said that besides coal, solar, wind and hydel power projects, communication, transport and infrastructure projects are also being set up under China Pakistan Economic Corridor.
He said that 2.8 billion dollars investment is being made on 1320 megawatt coal power project at Sahiwal whereas 1320 megawatt coal power plant is also being set up at Port Qasim with the same cost. He said that China has also invested in 900 megawatt solar power project in Bahawalpur.
He said that under CPEC, China is making 100 percent investment in energy and other projects and the management in the projects is of China and Pakistani government is only ensuring implementation of these projects, therefore, question of transparency and non-transparency in these projects does not arise.
He said that there is no need of tendering in G to G projects but Punjab government has completed the process of tendering in this project and this has happened first time in the history of the country.
Federal Minister for Science & Technology Rana Tanvir Hussain addressing the Forum said that under Pak-China Business Forum, contacts between businessmen of both the countries are increasing.
Chinese Consul General Yu Boren said that the leadership of both the countries is interested in strengthening economic cooperation. He said that Pak-China economic cooperation is increasing due to implementation of the projects under CPEC. He said that Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is serving people of the province in an excellent manner.
He said that completion of development projects is being ensured through transparency, quality and speed. He said that a strong leadership like Shehbaz Sharif has become available to Punjab and due to his steps, economy of the province is improving. Representatives of Chinese companies expressing their views said that increasing economic cooperation of Pakistan and China is useful for people of both the countries. Chairman Organizing Committee Prof. Qaiser Abbas threw light on the aims and objectives of Pak-China Business Forum. Federal Minister for Science & Technology Rana Tanvir Hussain presented souvenir to Shehbaz Sharif.
