Kunming expo, fair to boost cooperation
Kunming, China—The 4th China-South Asia grand Expo and the 24th Kunming Import and Export Fair was formally kicked off at the Yunnan province of China at a colourful ceremony on Sunday promising enhanced trade activities of China with the South Asian and Southeast Asian countries.
Inaugurated by the Chinese Vice President, the grand ceremony held at Kunming provincial capital of Yunnan was attended by the delegates and dignitaries from more than 80 countries and was also graced by Mr. Abdullah Maseeh Mohammad the Speaker of People’s Majlis of Maldives, Mr. Trinh Dinh Dung the Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam, Mr. Nanda Bahadur Pun the vice president of Nepal, Mr. Hor Namhothe Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia and Mr. Sonexay Siphandone the Deputy Prime Minister of Laos. Besides, an official delegation of senior journalists from Pakistan is also participating in the event and other activities that will last for more than a week.
While the objectives of both the events is to boost economic activities between China and South Asian and Southeast Asian countries, two days i.e June 12 and 13 have been devoted to exhibition and match-making among the professional buyers while the event would remain open to general public from June 14 to June 17.
Likewise, 35 ministerial-level officials, 24 foreign governors and mayors, including those from sister provinces and prefectures, 9 foreign ambassadors and 13 consul-generals in China also be are present at the events. Governmental officials, business leaders, entrepreneurs, experts, and scholars from 89 countries and regions, as well as representatives of international organizations, are participating in various sideline activities of the events. Co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of China and the People’s Government of Yunnan Province, the 4th China-South Asia Expo and the 24th China Kunming Import and Export Fair is expected to witness the attendance of 3401 guests, including 1811 foreign ones and 1590 domestic ones.
The Chinese authorities told media persons that a larger number of exhibitors and attendees. Guests from 89 countries and regions in Asia, Europe, America, Africa and Oceania are participating in the events, including exhibitors from 65 countries and participants from 72 countries. The total number of exhibitors will register about 5000, half of which are overseas ones. 155 renowned enterprises will join in the exhibition, an increase of 78% compared with 87 of last year. They comprises 13 companies listed on the Fortune Global 500 like KIA, LG, Foxconn, Huawei, and China Resources, 10 Domestic Top 500 such as CRRC, Haier, Baidu, and Tencent, and other 68 prominent firms from both at home and abroad including Amore, Cuckoo, China Tower, and DJI-Innovations, the authorities informed.The organizers of the Expo revealed that 18 pavilions will be put into use when compared to 13 last year with unprecedented 8,000 booths have also been set up.
“Under the objective of advancing trade cooperation among all participating parties and promoting their socio-economic development, we have made new pavilion arrangements. There are 2 South Asian Pavilions instead of 1 last year, and another 2 ASEAN Pavilions, the same as last year, further showcasing the features of those regions at the events. The International Capacity Cooperation Pavilion, as a newcomer, aims to highlight fruitful outcomes of Yunnan achieved by integrating into and serving the national Belt and Road Initiative and enhancing capacity cooperation with businesses all over the world”. The officials said.
The Information Technology and Industry Pavilion has been set up as a global platform for bolstering development of IT industries, while the Tourism Pavilion, the Manufacturing Pavilion, and the Featured Highland Agriculture Pavilion are to demonstrate the industrial characteristics and advantages of Yunnan. The opening ceremony, the national pavilions of Maldives, the theme country of the 4th China-South Asia Expo, and Vietnam, the country of honour of the 24th China Kunming Import and Export Commodities Fair, will be inaugurated at No. 7 Pavilion. The pavilion settings fully reflected the latest achievements and future trend of the economic, scientific and technological development of China, South Asia and Southeast Asia, as well as features of different countries and theme of different pavilions. The Chinese Vice President told the participants of the opening ceremony that they attached high expectations with both the Expos as they would go long way in boosting the economies of the South Asian and Southeast Asian countries benefiting their 3,09 billion population that constitute 43% of the world population. “We believe in the peaceful economic revolution, “said the Chinese vice president.
