Charsadda set for final showdown with Chitral

Peshawar—Charsadda setup final showdown with Chitral in the ongoing Dr. Shoukat Challenge Football Cup being played here at Tehmas Khan Football Stadium on Sunday. The spirited Charsadda handed an upsetting 2-1 defeat to strong title contender Doctors club in the last semi-final and thus took berth into the grand final against Chitral. Before the start of the semi-final match the players of both Charsadda and Doctors clubs were introduced to the chief guest former Pakistan team skipper Basit Kamal.
Organizing Secretary Dr. Shoukat, officials, players and large number of crowd were also present.
The match was started on fast tempo and Doctors club took the lead in the very 6th minute when international footballer Wahid slammed in a beautiful goal to make the tally. After taking lead, Doctors club put in more pressure to double the lead but their forwards were failed due to poor handling of the ball especially in the danger zone.
On the other hand, when Charsadda conceded a goal, they managed their position by playing with determination and made some good attacking moves as a result it was in the 21st minute when Charsadda succeeded in leveling the tally 1-1.
Muhammad Murad equalized the tally 1-1 by scoring a beautiful goal through his forceful kick from the long distance. The goal-keeper of Doctors club tried hard to stop the ball but he failed despite diving to his left. At half-time both the teams were tied 1-1. It was the second session in which Charsadda club put in more pressure and succeeded in getting a vital lead in the 66th minute when left winger Arif slammed in a beautiful goal from his pit position.
After taking lead, Charsadda adopted a defence strategy and all the team did nothing but defended their goal-post. Doctors Club of Dr. Shoukat, the organizing secretary of the event, tried their hard to level the tally but they were failed and thus Charsadda took berth into the final after registering victory against Doctors club in the second semi-finals. The final of the tournament will be played on Monday.—APP
