Changing demography of IHK

IT is an open secret that the Indian authorities and politicians have long harboured designs of converting the Muslim majority of occupied Kashmir into a minority and eroding the state’s Muslim character. For decades, plans to change Kashmir’s demographic makeup and its religious and ethnic identity have gone hand in hand with the use of brute force to stamp out the Kashmir freedom movement.
With a view to draw world’s attention towards these evil designs of India, an all parties conference, held at Kashmir secretariat in London, urged the international community to play its role in preventing Hindu extremist BJP government from taking steps against Kashmir and its people in violation of UN resolutions. The conference attended by leaders from Pakistan and Azad Kashmir raised a clear and loud voice on the matter, which should not go unnoticed or unheard as the people of Indian held Kashmir are strongly resisting the Indian plans to resettle tens of thousands of Hindus in new townships in the disputed territory. The BJP government is not stopping here but also planning to get passed a controversial legislation Geospatial Information Regulation Bill under which it would be able to penalize the individuals and organizations who depict Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory. Pakistan has rightly and timely taken the matter to the United Nations, describing the Indian move to show Kashmir as its part in contradiction to the UNSC resolutions. As it is also a matter of human rights, the major world capitals should shun double standards and use their influence on New Delhi to stop it from such tactics – the ones that will not help but further push the region into turmoil. Pakistan should also fight the case of Kashmir with more vigour at all international forums in order to free the innocent Kashmiri from the brute Indian clutches. Time has come for the UN to fulfil its commitment and hold an impartial and independent plebiscite in Kashmir allowing the people to determine their future. We will also advise New Delhi to learn lesson from decades of hostility towards the innocent Kashmiris and accept their right to self-determination for lasting peace and prosperity in the region.
