Chairman Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qasim Bughio on Monday welcomed the introduction of Dhahan International Punjabi Literary Award. He stated this in a meeting with Barjinder S. Dhahan, founder of Dhahan International Punjabi Literary Award Canada, who was accompanied by . Harinder Kaur Dhahan, Coordinator Dhahan International Punjabi Literary Award Canada and Ireland based known Punjabi poet and columnist Mehmood Awan, said a press release.
“This will be a source of inspiration for promotion of Punjabi language and literature, all over the world,” Chairman, PAL, added.
Barjinder briefed the Chairman PAL about history and procedure of the Dhahan International Award being given to three prose writers of Punjabi language on their new books since 2014. He further said that The Dhahan Prize was created to call greater attention to the wealth of literary works produced in Punjabi around the world.
The Prize encourages new writing by awarding $25,000 CDN annually to one “best book of fiction” published in either of the two Punjabi scripts, Gurmukhi or Shahmukhi. The Chairman PAL also briefed the guests about objectives of PAL including Kamal-i-Fun Award, National Literary Awards (on best books of the year in all major languages of Pakistn), being given by PAL annually. Senior writers from Islamabad and Rawalpindi also attended the meeting.
