Srinagar—Condemning the arrest and registering of sedition charges against the former Delhi University lecturer, Professor Syed Abdul Rehman Geelani and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student leader, Chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah has said that the Indian government, by doing so, cannot cover up the truth. “To register sedition case against SAR Geelani and JNUSU leader Kanhaiya Kumar for speaking up the truth only reveals the fascist mindset of Indian government,” Shah said in a statement.
“Indian government must read writing on the wall that it cannot suppress for long the genuine voices of the university students, justice-loving journalists and those advocating for human rights. Very soon, whole India will chant pro-justice slogans,” he said.
Terming the pro-Kashmir slogans by students of JNU and Jadavpur University of Kolkata as “based on truth”, Shah said: “It is an eye-opener for Indian authorities. They should fulfill the promises made with Kashmiris without any delay. Otherwise, they should slap sedition charges on every Indian.”
Condemning the sedition charges against SAR Geelani, Shah said, “To raise voice against hanging of Afzal Guru in university doesn’t tantamount to sedition.”
“Hitherto, India used to keep its people in dark vis-à-vis Jammu and Kashmir but now masses are aware that Kashmiris are showered bullets for raising genuine voices and that the hanging of Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru was unjust,” he said.—SABAH
