The two ODI debutants- Sri Lanka’s Sadeera Samarawickrama and Pakistan’s Usman Khan Shinwari had contrasting fortunes at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Samarawickrama became victim of just the second delivered he faced (off Imad Wasim) and had to return with a duck. Unfortunately he was clean bowled.
Whereas, Usman Khan’s second ball of his international ODI career gave him a wicket.
“Yes, we did watch the match on TV and were excited with the beauty of this delivery. We would have been more delighted had it been a wicket with the first delivery in his debut ODI’, the 23-year-old Usman Shinwari’s father, Asmatg Ullah Khan, 50, said exclusively over telephone from Pakistan.
“Though my son didn’t take the first ball wicket, but it was a prize wicket of the captain and it was an icing on the cake when Upul Tharanga was clean bowled”.
Interestingly, Usman’s father also played cricket at domestic level in Pakistan.
His youngest son, Ibrahim Khan has also been selected for Under-16 trial.
The eldest son, Imran Khan, who was busy attending wedding in his in-laws’ family is a businessman.
Usman Shinwari’s fast-bowling talent was first spotted by the former selector, Saleem Jaffer.
