Cantt Board fails to remove encroachments

Rawalpindi—Despite the strict orders from Lahore High Court and Punjab Government to rid the roadsides and footpaths absorbed with encroachments, the municipal corporation and cantonment boards failed to eliminate the encroachment mafia from Rawalpindi city.
The regional and district officers vowed to sweep the encroachments from the city. In this regard dozens of trucks were hired to confiscate the widespread encroachments from roadsides and footpaths. An anti-encroachment operation was conducted in the areas of Ganjmandi and Commercial Market but the traders did not allow the anti-encroachment teams to remove their setups. Thus the operation ended in smoke, bringing failure upon the department and its officers.
In the face of the “mere anti-encroachments operation” being held under the guidance of the administrator of Rawal Town Imran Qureshi, efforts are half heartedly made to remove encroachments in the areas of Sabzi Mandi, Namak Mandi, Raja Bazaar, Iqbal Road, College Road, Bohar Bazaar, Chaklala Road, Dhok Khabba, Sadiqabad, Kuri Road and surrounding areas.—INP
