Call to facilitate SME sector

Faisalabad—Chaudhry Muhammad Nawaz, President Faisalabad Chamber of commerce and Industry (FCCI) on Saturday demanded the government to reprioritize its policies with a focused approach to help and facilitate the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector which was actually the backbone of national economy. He was addressing the participants of a Focus Group discussion meeting held in FCCI here to evaluate the overall performance of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) from 2011-2014.
He said that like other developed industrial cities of Pakistan, Faisalabad had also its origin from SMEs. In 1947, many small units started their operations which had now become national giants and due to these units, Faisalabad was considered as the third major industrial hub of Pakistan. He said that there were 3.2 million SMEs in Pakistan. These units were contributing to the national economy in a big way. “35% of SMEs are involved in manufacturing of value added products”, he said and added that their share in overall export is 25% and 30% in GDP.—APP
