National Day of Egypt
Ambassador Ahmed Fadel Yacoub and Mrs. Ghada Yacoub hosted a warm reception to celebrate the National Day of Egypt. The ceremony began with the recitation of Quranic Verses. National anthems of the two countries were played to the applause of the guests. A large number of diplomats and prominent people from various segments of society graced the occasion.
Addressing the reception, the Egyptian ambassador highlighted warm friendly relations that exist between Pakistan and his country.
He said bilateral relations between the two countries are historical. They go hundreds of years back. Even before the establishment of Pakistan, Muslims of this region were in close contact with their brothers in Egypt. Quaid-I-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah visited Egypt in 1946 when he met with the Egyptian leaders and intellectuals. The founder of Pakistan spoke about political aspirations of the South Asian Muslims.
He said today Pakistan and Egypt share the same aspirations of peace and prosperity. They face the same challenges of extremism and terrorism. He expressed solidarity with Pakistan government and people on behalf of his country over recent terrorist attacks at Mastung and Bannu.
The chief guest, Commerce Minister Misbah ur Rehman reciprocated sentiments of the Egyptian ambassador. He said Pakistan greatly values its friendly relations with Egypt. He stressed the need for further promoting relations between the two countries.
The federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Barrister Ali Zafar and federal Minister for Human Rights Roshan Bharucha also attended the reception.
