It is great news that Kudankulam nuclear power plant in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, India has now begun transmitting around 160 MW of electricity – after many glitches and hitches. In fact this plant will go a long way in matters of creating many jobs in areas like Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Marthandam and Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu in India.
Unnecessary criticism and protest against the industrial projects should not be allowed to ruin the growth of the industry. It cannot be ruled out that business houses are the great builders of any country. Industries are global today. In fact starting a company or plant needs greater efforts and a lot of money. In contrast, any disruption to the business houses/plants is not only an immediate setback to the owners but also will cause a severe blow to all those dependent on them for their livelihood.
While raising any voice or concern for environment, there should be no place for false propaganda. In the name of safeguarding the environment, blindly protesting industrialisation is not correct. Instead, there should be much support and cooperation for the industrial activities. Also, it is the responsibility of the authorities to issue strict rules and regulations while giving permit to business houses. As the saying of great poet Rabindranath Tagore goes, “Science has given man immense power. The golden age will return when it is used in the service of humanity.”
