The mystery surrounding the missing and reported killing of the SP ruler Peshawar Tahir Khan came to end on Wednesday when credible sources as well as the police authorities confirmed the brutal assassination of the senior Police Officer at the hands of militants in Afghanistan.
The sources confirmed that the body of the slain Police officer was handed over to the officials of Pakistani Consulate in Jalalabad on Wednesday.
Superintendent Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tahir Khan Dawar, a recipient of Quaid-e-Azam medal, it may be recalled, had gone missing in Islamabad on October 26 and the Islamabad police stated next day the SP Tahir was kidnapped from within the jurisdiction of Ramna police station.
Since then conflicting news about the well-being of the missing SP were circulated in media with particular reference to the Social media. On Tuesday the news made headlines in the electronic media that the kidnapped Tahir Khan Dawar, who hailed from Waziristan Tribal district, has been killed by unknown people near Pak-Afghan border in Nangarhar province of Afghanistan and that the dead body of Tahir Khan was recovered in Momand Dara area. The pictures of his dead body also went viral on social media. Reportedly a statement of the terrorists was also found along with the body in which the IS Khorasan claimed responsibility for killing the police official.
However, the Interior Minister Shehryar Afridi during interaction with the media persons the same day hoped that SP Dawar was still alive and that Pakistan was experiencing a fifth-generation cyber-war as edited and retouched pictures and “fake news were being spread these days.
In the afternoon the foreign office said the Afghan government has confirmed the discovery of a body along with the service card of Pakistani police superintendent Tahir Khan Dawar.
