Blast targeting police station in Bannu injures 2 cops

A suicide explosion targeting a Police Station in Bannu Tuesday morning left at least two cops seriously injured while the Police Station building sustained damages.
Reports reaching here said an unknown attacker rammed his explosives laden vehicle at the main gate of the Mandaan Police station in wee hours that caused major damages to the building causing a portion of the building collapsed.
At least two of the Police officials present in the area were trapped under the rubbles and were retrieved in wounded condition. “The two policemen were recovered from the rubble in injured condition and were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Bannu for treatment”. The Police authorities said windows of the buildings located near the police station were also shattered by the intensity of the explosion.
The high intensity blast also caused break down of the electricity as major power lines were affected in the attack thus hampering the rescue operation due to darkness.
Intense firing was also reported in the area following the attack.
A car was used in the attack. A wounded cop told media persons adding, “When the vehicle crossed the roadblock at such a high speed despite being stopped, we realized that this was dangerous. When we lit the torch, the terrorist blew his vehicle up at the main gate of the Police station.”
Senior Police officials told Observer that the suicide attack could have played havoc had the suicide bomber not been intercepted and entered the main building. The security forces started search and net operation in the area following the blast.
The outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Al-Qaeda Sub-continent have claimed responsibility for the terror attack.
