KARACHI : PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on the request of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah inaugurated Jahangir Park located in Saddar area, the heart of city.
In a nice morning Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presiding over a meeting at New Sindh Secretariat said that he wanted to restore Jahangir Park, otherwise it would turned into parking place of Patharas and dumping ground of wooden crates the fruit vendors keep throwing there.
He concluded the meeting and accompanied by his then Principal Secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch, Chairman P&D Mohammad Waseem and Project Director Karachi Package Niaz Soomro visited the park without protocol and vowed to restore it more than its past glories.
He directed the DC South who was also present there to remove encroachment from the park so that it restoration work could be started.
Murad Ali Shah directed Chairman P&D and PD Karachi package to prepare PC-1 for the park and get it approved it from him. In this way the chief minister approved the scheme for Rs200 million.
The work started on the project and the chief minister kept it visiting time to time and got it completed within six months.
The park spread over 5-acres with a MP theatre, birds aviary, dinosaur park and a beautiful library. It has RO Plants each one of 50 MGD. One RO Plant is for drinking purpose to be used by visitors and the nearby residents would also have the facility to take water to their homes. The other RO Plant is only for water the lawn, treats, plants and flowers planted there.
The park has its own security system under which CCTV cameras have been installed with a command and Control Centre. These CCT cameras would also cover the vicinity around the park.
The park inaugurated today would automatically stand open for public from this evening. It would be free for all for two weeks and then the administration would decided to fix nominal charges for visitors.
The Sindh government through PD of the project would maintain the park for next two years.
It may be noted that the land where Jahangir Park is established was donated by Khan Bahadur Behramjee Jahangir Raj kotwala had donated this land early 1880s. A park was established on the land and was named as Behramjee Bagh which was inaugurated in the eve of Noroze in 1883. Latter, it name developed as Jahangir Park.
The chief minister said that with the inauguration of Jahangir Park the soul of late Behramjee Jahangir must have feeling satisfaction. “ Now it is upto all of us to take care of park and maintain its beauty and the restored glory,” he said.
Murad Ali Shah said Saddar is heart of Karachi and Jahangir Park is heat of Saddar. “We have restored palpitation of heart and now with the start of restoration of old areas entire Saddar area would give new a look,” Murad Shah vowed.
