Karachi—Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has castigated the federal government for sitting cross-legged while the un-seasoned rains, hailstorm joined by land-sliding and avalanches inflicting heavy losses in terms of precious human lives, livestock and crops and other agriculture produces in several parts of the country.
Last week, PPP Chairman had alerted the Federal government and other provincial governments about the predicted imminent heavy downpours and hail-storms and their negative effects on the farmers and areas prone to land-sliding and avalanches and asked for preparedness in advance to face the situation and mitigate sufferings.
It seems the government slept and ignored his calls for pre-emptive humanly possible measures to save human lives and standing crops, he said and adding that slumber of rulers in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa continued while torrential rains ravaged vast areas. The Federal government extended no support to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir where heavy rains caused land sliding and destruction of houses incidents in many areas.
He pointed out that there were reports of 79 deaths and a hundred injuries but the actual losses cannot be estimated accurately as many of the affected areas are incommunicado following the mud-sliding and avalanches where first aid relief has not reached so far.
He said areas of Punjab, FATA, Malakand, Hazara, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan have been bat-tered by the downpours and hailstorm flattened the standing crops but the government seems callously unmoved and unaffected.
PPP Chairman expressed deep concern over the loss of human lives; property and damage caused to the standing crops and demanded the Federal govern-ment to immediately provide compensation and relief to all the affected areas without any discrimination.
