Srinagar—In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown was observed in Bhaderwah, Kishtwar and Gandoh areas of Jammu region, today, to protest against the administration for harassing and arresting people including women and against civilian killings in the Kashmir Valley.
Shops, business establishments and some private schools were closed due to the shutdown. Call for the shutdown had been given by Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhaderwah, Majlis-e-Shoura Kishtwar and Anjuman-e-Islamia Gandoh.
“We have called for shutdown today, to give a strong message to the authorities in general and District Administration in particular, that they cannot bully or intimidate us to stop not to show our resentment against innocent killings in the Valley by invoking draconian PSA or raiding the houses of innocent people,” said Anjuman-e-Islamia, Bhadarwah President, Pervaiz Ahmed Sheikh.
He said that the puppet administration was even denying them the basic democratic right of holding peaceful protests. “Some communal politicians and RSS-backed bureaucrats in district administration are trying to communalize the peaceful atmosphere of Chenab Valley,” he said.
Meanwhile, extra contingents of Indian police and Central Reserve Police Force have been deployed at all the sensitive places in the areas to prevent any protests, amid the brewing tension over unabated civilian killings in the Kashmir Valley.—KMS
