Belated but successful operation in South Punjab

Ever-Since operation Zarb-e-Azb was launched by Pakistan Army with the full backing of the people and the Government, there has been demands from some circles to focus on South Punjab as well, which had increasingly become centre of extremist activities. There were also reports that terrorists and hardened criminals were taking refuge there, emphasizing the need for a surgical operation to cleanse the area.
In this backdrop, launching of a well-coordinated operation in South Punjab is though belated but a welcome development and hopefully it would have salutary impact on the overall security environment of the country. According to a statement of the ISPR, terrorists and criminal elements fleeing from different parts of the country as a result of successful operation Zarb-e-Azb took refuge in remote areas of Rohjan, Kache area in district Rahim Yar Khan and the law-enforcing agencies including Rangers, Punjab Police and Counter-Terrorism Department, assisted by Pakistan Army, are carrying out operations in Southern Punjab. Hundreds of arrests have been made and hopefully interrogation of suspects would lead to more intelligence based operations in the area. Earlier, there was somewhat reluctance on the part of the Government to launch an operation in Punjab but concrete action against terrorists in South Punjab is testimony to the fact that there was no sacred area and terrorists would be followed in each and every corner of the country. This is the right approach as criminal and terrorist activities cannot be tolerated irrespective of who is carrying them out in which area. This successful across the board operation has conveyed a strong message to terrorists that they will not be spared and will have to face the wrath of the state power. Operation Zarb-e-Azb is the last hope of the nation and therefore, there should be no leniency against anyone and the operation should continue in all areas including FATA, KP, Balochistan, South Punjab and Karachi till it reaches to its logical conclusion.
