A successful candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided not to withdraw his salary and other cash allowances a member of parliament is entitled to. Barrister Muhammad Hammad Azhar won election from National Assembly constituency NA-126 Lahore by securing 105,434 votes.
According to unofficial results announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan, Mehar Ishtiaq of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PMLN) stood second by securing 102,667 votes. ‘As a member of parliament I will not take any salary or cash allowance,’ Hammad wrote on Twitter on Sunday. ‘I will strive to follow the guidance of simplicity given by my leader Imran Khan,’ he vowed.
His voters and PTI supporters lauded him for this ‘great step’, urging other lawmakers to follow his suit. Many pleaded the PTI leader to withdraw the salary and use it on the poorest from his constituency, while a few suggested to contribute to the Diamer-Basha and Mohmand Dams Fund.
I suggest all parliamentarians to create a joint account , where all of salaries will be deposited . The money can then be used in developmental work. And along with that it would be great if all PTI members refuse to take any VIP protocols awarded by government.
