Bano Qudsia stands tall..!

Iftikhar Mirza

Veteran Urdu prose writer Bano Qudsia passed away on 5th Feb. A prolific writer who wrote numerous books. She did her Masters in !950 and started writing at time when women were only meant for marriages. Nothing more; nothing less. Her writings helped in mitigating dislike and contempt against women ingrained in male-dominated society of that time. She stood tall against odds of society and with Razia Butt & Quratul ain Haider infused wave of respect for women in society.
Her novel Raja Gidh, a classic of Urdu novels, removed misogyny from educated people. She shouldered Ashfaq Ahmed, her spouse, in writing on Sufism in his later age. A women who got fame but always remained humble. She contributed in compiling and publishing the left over work of her spouse. Bano was an Iconic Figure. Urdu has been deprived from an immaculate legendary writer. May her soul rest in eternal peace. Ameen
