Pakistan Railway Special Azadi Train entertained more than 10 million people across the country during its countrywide 20 days tour. Pakistan Railways in collaborations with ministry for Information, Broadcasting and other departments to educate and entertain the people across the country on the occasion of 70th Independence Day. Azadi Train started its journey from Margalla Railway Station on August 12 in a colourful ceremony.
The train in its first round completed journey of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and entertained thousands of people in Peshawar, Noshera and Attock. A large number of people warmly received Azadi Train at every Railway Station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. After successful tour of KP, the train entered Punjab province and the first two-night stay was at Rawalpindi Railway Station. A large number of people were present at Railway Station to welcome Azadi Train and enjoy Azadi Train galleries and beautifully decorated cultural floats.
Incharge Officer Azadi Train said that thousands of people visited Azadi Train during two-night stay at Rawalpindi. Azadi Train next destination was Lahore via Wazirabad, Lalamusa, Gujrat and Gujranwala. On every Railway Station hundreds of people gathered to welcome Azadi Train and celebrate Independence Day. When Azadi Train reached Lahore, there was huge crowed of people carrying National flags in their hands waiting for train till late night.
Azadi Train got warm reception and later, the folk artists representing all four provinces including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir entertained the visitors with enthralling performances at jam packed railway station. Azadi Train later, started its journey to other parts of Punjab including Raiwind, Chichawatni, Patoki, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Rahimyar Khan, Khanpur, Bahawalpur, Sadiqabad and Samasata. At every Railway Station there was warm reception from the people specially families and students. After successful tour of Punjab province Azadi Train entered Sindh province with big jubilation and reception at Ghotki, Mirpur Mathelo, Pano Aqil, Rohri, Sukkur, Shikarpur and Jacobabad. Wherever, the train reached people rushed Railways Stations and at every station there was warm welcome.
After entertaining people of KP, Punjab provinces and some cities of Sindh province, Azadi Train reached Balochistan amid warm welcome at Dera Murad Jamali during short stay. With arrival of train, a large number of people were started chanting slogans “Pakistan Zindabad”. The Railway Junction was beautifully decorated with National flags and welcome banners from the railway officials and people of the Dera Murad Jamali. People also presented cold water and food packets to the staffer traveling with train and also enjoyed visit of cultural floats. After Dera Murad Jamali, Train taking short stay in warm welcome at Bakhtiyarabad Domki reached Sibi. A large number of people were gathered at Sibi Railway Station to welcome Azadi Train. Folk artists also entertained the visitors with popular National songs till late night and early morning Azadi Train left for Abigum, Mach and Kolpur and Quetta.
At every Railway Station there was warm reception and people really enjoyed cultural floats and beautifully decorated galleries of Azadi Train. In Quetta Railway Station more than three lakh people visited Azadi Train galleries and cultural floats during two days stay and people were requesting for extension of Azadi Train for more stay but as plan, the train returned to Sindh province. Entertaining thousands of people at Khairpur, Mehrabpur and Shahdadpur reached Hyderabad amid warm welcome and celebrations. Folk artists also performed and thousands of people visited galleries and enjoyed the performances.
The other day Azadi Train resumed its journey to Karachi city for two- night stay. Before that a large number of people warmly welcome Azadi Train at Kotri and other small stations. Senior Journalist Tahir Arain told APP that Azadi Train should be arranged annually to educate people specially students about the beautiful culture and history of Pakistan. He said that people across the country love to visit such a beautiful train which depicting the culture of all four provinces including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir.
He said that Azadi Train was really one of the most successful project of Pakistan Railways to entertain and educate the people. He also appreciated galleries, saying that through this way people get knowledge about struggle of our forefathers. After successful tour of Karachi, Azadi Train also entertained people at Dadu, Sehwan Shareef, Larkana, Dera Ghazi Khan, Kot Adu, Leah, Bhakkar, Kundian, Mianwali and Jand.—APP
