Awareness session on breast cancer at FJWU

The Women Research and Resource Center (WRRC), Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) in collaboration with Shifa International Hospital Thursday organized an awareness session on breast cancer.
The objective of the session was to increase cancer awareness among the students of the university.
Addressing the participants Consultant Radiation Oncologist, Shifa International Hospital, Dr. Uzma Qasim said, women particularly those aged 20 to 39 years without any risk factors should get themselves checked by a doctor for a clinical breast examination and a mammogram after every three years. She also focused on the treatment options available for breast cancer. She elaborated the surgical options for removing a breast tumor and role of chemotherapy and radiation in eradicating cancerous cells.
Dr. Uzma advised the participants to support the breast cancer patients and make them feel positive during their difficult time.
A large number of students, staff and faculty members attended the session.
At the end, Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, FJWU, Prof. Dr. Naheed Zia Khan presented a souvenir to Dr. Uzma Qasim and hoped that the session increased the awareness about breast cancer and would help save more women’s lives in the country.—APP
