Autonomous status for Dental Hospital Lahore

Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Punjab Najam Ahmad Shah has said that in the first time of history of De’Montmorency College of Dentistry, government has given autonomous status to the college and the hospital and an independent Board of Management has been constituted to promote the education and increase the dental health facilities. He said that government would continue support to the college and the hospital and would take necessary steps for the development of dental health sector as it was being neglected for many decades.
He said this while presiding over a meeting in his office to review the development work and administrative matters of the dental college/hospital. Principal Prof. Dr. Waheed-ul-Hameed, MS Dr. Mushtaq Alam, Addl. Secretary (Tech) Dr. Salman Shahid, Chief Planning Officer Abdul Haq Bhatti, Project Director Prof. Asif Ali Shah and other concerned officers of the department were also present in the meeting. Secretary SH&ME while giving approval to start evening shift in the hospital, directed to get formal approval from the Board of Management.
He asked to convene the first meeting of BoM at the earliest. Najam Ahmad Shah said that immediate steps should be taken for recruitment on the sanctioned vacant posts of the dental college and the hospital. He directed to constitute a committee of experts to assess the requirements according to the yardsticks for promotion of dental health in the teaching as well as primary & secondary level. Principal Prof. Waheed-ul-Hameed and other doctors informed the Secretary that the promotion of dental surgeons from Grade 17 to 18 and 19 were delayed due to some reasons and requested that the issue be resolved on the priority basis.
Najam Ahmad Shah directed the officers to look into the matter and steps should be taken to dispose of such cases on urgent basis.
