ATC to formally indict designate Mayor of Karachi

Staff Reporter

Karachi—Formal indictment of designate mayor Waseem Akhtar and Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Supreme Council member Abdul Rauf Siddiqui in cases registered against them in various police stations in Karachi for facilitating the MQM founder and leader Altaf Hussain for his speech has been scheduled on March 26, this current month. This was observed during the hearing of cases in the antiterror court of Judge Basheer Ahmed Khosso, Friday.
The ATC of Judge Basheer Ahmed Khosso had rejected bails of leader of opposition in Sindh assembly Khawaja Izhar Ul Hassan for not appearing in the ATC. Later, the ATC accepted the reasoning for the delayed appearance as he was present in another ATC for bails in other cases as he has a total of 26 FIRs registered against him.
The ATC of Judge Khosso had approved bail in 21 cases against security deposit of 20,000 for each case while the other ATC of Judge Khalida Yaseen granted him bail in two cases against 100, 000 for each case. While talking to this scribe, Hassan said he was in ATC of Judge Khalida Yaseen and had thought of getting bail against low deposit of sum but the bail was granted against a deposit of sum of 100, 000 for each case for which he had to hurriedly arrange for the money, which caused him to appear late in other ATC. However, the ATC had accepted his reasoning and granted him bail. Till date, leader of opposition in SA has been nominated in 26 FIRs of which 2 were registered in Police Station in Malir and as soon as the Sindh High Court would mark the FIRs for the ATC, he would struggle for bail.
On the other hand, the designate Mayor Waseem Akhtar is his press talk said since all the cases so far registered against him are of similar nature and thus these should be combined as one.
