Karachi—The antiterror court in Karachi has issued non-bailable arrest warrants of MQM rebel group member Anis Qaimkhani, PPP Karachi Division’s former President ad former MNA Abdul Qadir Patel and MQM leader Saleem Shahzad.
The non-bailable arrest warrants thus issued are in connection with Dr Asim Hussain case, as the later had during a joint interrogation had named them as facilitator of militants and terrorists regarding the medical treatment for their injuries during encounters with the law enforcement agencies.
On Tuesday, the ATC had heard the case of Dr Asim Hussain. Dr Hussain, MQM leaders Abdul Rauf Siddiqui and designate Mayor of Karachi Waseem Akhtar and Pasban Pakistan General Secretary Usman Moazzam appeared in the court.
The ATC asked the investigation officer (IO) to submit a report about the absconding accused persons. The IO informed the ATC that one of the absconding accused Anis Qaimkhani is residing in a bungalow in Khayaban-e Sahar in DHA Karachi.
The IO further informed the ATC that as he had visited that bungalow where Iftikhar Alam told him that Qaimkhani was not in Karachi but was in Hyderabad owing to which Qaimkhani could not be arrested. However, a letter for the arrest of Saleem Shahzad has been written to the Home Secretary and a response is awaited in this regard.
The ATC also showed annoyance on failure of arrest of PPP leader Abdul Qadir Patel and adjourned the hearing until April 2 next month and re-issued their non-bailable arrest warrants.
