Army, Wapda claim National Netball C’ships

Islamabad—Pakistan Army claimed the 15th National Men Netball Championship 2016 by defeating WAPDA by 30-24 goals in the final here at Hamidi Hall, Pakistan Sports Complex.
Army’s Abdul Haque, Muhammad Zahid and Khursheed Ahmed played a crucial role in their team’s win.
In the third position match Pakistan Air Force (PAF) defeated Sindh 36-33. Muhammad Akhtar, Zohaib and Preim Shehzad of PAF performed outstandingly.
Meanwhile, Sindh women overwhelmed Pakistan Army women to clinch the National Women Netball Championship. Sindh won the final by 28-24 goals and were declared the national champion.
Sindh’s Quratul Ain, Nayab Razia, Hina Rafique, Humaira and Anum Salam showed great skills.
In the third position match WAPDA beat Punjab by 28-17 goals. The key role in the win was played by Rizwana Arshad, Ume Laila Kulsoom and Sherish Nawaz. Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, who was the chief guest of concluding ceremony, distributed trophies, shields, medals and certificates among the players and teams.
Later, speaking to media Pirzada said that the Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Games were not cancelled and will be held as per new schedule.
He said Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar would inaugurate the Games adding that every effort would be made to hold these games in a befitting manner.
To a question he said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was the chief patron of Pakistan Cricket Board and Pakistan Hockey Federation and hence he would himself take any decision about them in the wake of dismal performance of cricket and hockey teams.
He said players were ambassadors of the country and they should play with passion to win events for the country.—APP
