Peshawar—An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in South Waziristan agency on Tuesday resulted in the martyrdom of a serving Army major and serious injuries to six others.
An Army contingent was conducting search and cordon operation in the out skirts of agency headquarters Wana, when it was hit by the road side explosion that left seven men in uniform wounded including Major Imran Shaheen who later succumbed to his injuries. The injured soldiers were shifted to hospital for treatment.
“An IED blast hit security forces convey in Wana when they were busy in search operation. Major Imran embraced martyrdom and six other soldiers were injured in the blast”. An Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) communiqué said. The military sources when contacted, told Observer that the injured soldiers were in stable condition. The IED is believed to have been planted by the alleged terrorist.
The funeral prayers of Shaheed Major Imran Shaheen were offered in the Corps Headquarters Peshawar in the afternoon. The last rituals of the martyred officer besides others, were also attended by the Corps Commander Peshawar Lieutenant General Hidayat-ur Rehman and governor Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra. It may be recalled that the Pakistan Army led security forces have been conducting Operation Zerb-e-Azb in the region since June 15 2014.
The operation initiated against the trouble makers challenging the writ of the state in the tribal belt has entered the last leg as more than ninety percent area has been cleared of the miscreants who are on the run.
